CULTIVATED MIND is a reggae, dub, and jazz combo from the Hampton Roads area of South Eastern Virginia that has been creating socially – conscious, high-energy, infectious roots and dub music since 2013. Formed by producer and multi-instrumentalist Anthony Brand and artist/percussionist Drew Boyd, Cultivated Mind has grown over the years, producing multiple albums, EP’s, and collaborations with other East Coast artists and artists in Europe and Jamaica. Current members include Anthony “Maestro” Brand on recordings/guitar/keys/bass/drums/melodica, Chad “Yadi Rama” Tyler on bass/keys, Jahvin Purnell on Keys/organ, Mike Michaels on drums/backing vocals, and Mark Kohlman on Sax, along with additional horn section “The Marksman” for larger shows (Isak Crane, Tyler Vo, Mark Kohlman). The band rotates between an acoustic trio and full band for live performances and can accommodate any size venue. Though mostly playing original music, Cultivated Mind’s concerts also often include medleys of old reggae classics, dub versions of classic soul and blues songs, and live improvisations.
